Nia Long to host Miss Black Britain 2009

So its beauty pageant season again and one pageant that keeps on getting better and better each year is Miss Black Britain which takes place on Saturday 14th November @ the Mermaid Theatre, London.

This year they have bagged the very talented and beautiful award winning American actress Ms Nia Long to host the show. Nia who started her career in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has been voted one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world by People Magazine. This chick has also starred in films like Boyz N the Hood, Soul Food and Love Jones! Recently she has teamed up with comedian Chris Rock on a documentary film ‘Good Hair’ which explores the black hair industry


Nia’s co host will not be revealed just yet and is set to be a surprise on the night.

Miss Black Britain is now in its fourth year and the competition has produced some stunning past winners including

The BEFFTA Awards (which stands for the Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Art -yep that’s what I thought a bit of a mouthful!) not to be confused with The BAFTA Awards as one of the guest speakers on the ‘High Table’ repeatedly got it wrong. But anyway they announced their nominees at The Hilton Metropole Hotel in London. The awards have a whopping 48 categories which mean everyone who anyone has been nominated.

 “Our aim is to provide exposure for many-coming individuals who’ve contributed in someway to the industry. These awards are in recognition of those people.” said founder Pauling Long.

The very lovely Kubi Springer’s television show Sisterhood TV is up for Best TV Show

Former Miss Black Britain winners Rachael Williams (2006 – l)  and Hannah Osunsina (2007 -r) are both nominated Rachael for Best Female Model and Hannah for Best Former Beauty Queen – You go ladies!!!

Arieta Mujay and Verona White

Also fashionista (who is in this months ASOS mag) Arieta Mujay (l) and Celebrity hair stylist Verona White (r) who is nominated for Best Hair Stylist made an appearance.

Mobo Awards 2009 Launch Party : The Girls

The Mobo (Music Of Black Origin) Awards Launch party was held at the swanky May Fair Hotel in London. Braving the very moody weather musicians, fashionista and the uber cool of the music industry made every effort to attend the event.  A full house = good times but who done better the Girls or the Guys?
